Microsoft is introducing a free version of Teams as an alternative to Slack

Microsoft's group collaboration software is about to become a lot more accessible to smaller scale operations with a new free tier.

Microsoft has announced that its Microsoft Teams app is receiving a free version with support for over 40 languages. Teams of up to 300 people will be able to talk via chat, voice, and video, with 10 GB of group storage and 2 GB of personal storage for each person.

In addition to these group features, app integration with the online version of Microsoft Office on top of business-focused applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Evernote, and Trello. Microsoft is aiming for this free version of Teams to be an introduction to its paid productivity options, such as Microsoft 365. The free version of Teams is available now.

The introduction of a free tier for Teams makes it a viable alternative for Slack in the business collaboration software sector.
