Easy security- and privacycheck for apps

On an Android you can install literally anything for now, Google wants to stop this in september 2026 and let you only install apps via their Play Store. Their biggest argument is 'for better security' but we all know they do it for the money. On the website: https://keepandroidopen.org/ they try to stop Google via reaching the government, amazing! What we can do next is demonstrate that we can take our responsibility. This list contains services that show you as a customer the security and privacy of an app/service in a simple and clear way.

  1. SDK Monitor shows you which Android API levels your installed apps are targeting. Since 2017 Google requires apps to target recent API levels for better security and privacy, this tool helps you see how up-to-date your apps really are. I found that this is made by a legend from Brazil.

No need for checking if the app has malware: this app store only contains free open-source apps and they try to keep apps malware-free. However updates are delayed. You can use this app to look for an app and then install it on the Play Store, Aurora Store, or by getting the APK directly from the developer (you can then automatically update an app with Obtainium)

  8. When you go to a site and you see UBO blocking 50!? trackers and ads, you know the service doesn't care about your data. If you don't trust a service that much, you can always use your private browser to set it up as a PWA. That way the service is in a sandbox and can trackers be blocked better. Remember you don't NEED to download an APP for EVERYTHING!

If you still want or need to use a service, you can keep your data safer by sandboxing it in a browser or with these tools:

You can block internet access for all the apps that don't need it. For example if you use a video editor like Capcut but you only want to use it for editing and not seeing templates, block internet access. That way the app normally can't send data about you.
