Game Stores

The way people purchase video games has changed dramatically over the past decade. Digital distribution is the norm, and this distribution manifests itself in the form of several convenient storefronts. Most PC gamers have heard of Steam, but other options like Good Old Games, Origin, uPlay, or even the Microsoft Store exist as well.

  1. Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation.
  2. GOG.com (Good Old Games) sells classic PC games through their download service at a low price, without DRM, and updated to run on the latest versions of Windows and other systems.

  3. itch.io gives you the ability to design a page where people can download games you have uploaded. You can optionally put a minimum price on your game (which can be 0), giving people the opportunity to pay you what they think you deserve. All files and images are hosted on itch.

  4. Buy a bundle of games, you decide the price, and support charity in the process. Each game is normally DRM-free and runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux!
  5. The gaming Client designed for a convenient purchasing, playing and updating DRM-free games, as well as an online play between gaming platforms, GOG GALAXY is also built with optionality in mind, and a belief that you should own the games you buy
  6. The Epic Games store is now open, featuring games from other developers. Epic's goal is to bring you great games, and to give game developers a better deal: they receive 88% of the money you spend, versus only 70% elsewhere.
