    LJ ~recently (December, 2025) made an announcement (in russian language, but automatic translation works fine) about new changes. LJ's current management (Rambler, which is owned by Sberbank, russian national bank) is internationally sanctioned. therefore, no financial transactions from sanctioning states can be processed. so if you're living in a nation not allied to russia, they can't make money...

    Nostalgic design hooks me every time, even though I realize it does not always mean a good service. This one is OK, at least currently. One important thing to mention about recent changes on their TOS (as of Dec, 2025): "Askmos.me will feature advertisements and may include sponsored content in the future."

    perfect balance between simplicity and customization. those who just want to write could just use existing CSS themes and simple Markdown. those who know how to code and want customization - could modify or create custom CSS.

    want to connect with other people there and to be in local feed? you can do it. want to make the blog ~anonymous and invisible? you can do it too.

    free functionality is more than enough for personal use. and if one needs more - price for paid version is reasonable,...
