Google will let users vibe code and run Android apps without requiring a developer account

Google Play has unveiled a significant update on October 13, 2026, introducing a suite of new features aimed at enhancing app discovery, cross-device compatibility, and personalized AI experiences. Vice President Sam Bright announced that users can now build and run custom AI applications directly on their devices without requiring developer accounts, a notable shift that democratizes AI app creation through Google AI Studio for everyday consumers. The platform is also rolling out AI-powered discovery tools including “Gamer DNA” technology designed to recommend apps and games tailored to individual user preferences, alongside “Ask Play” and Gemini integration for more intuitive content searching.

Beyond AI capabilities, Google Play is substantially expanding its reach beyond mobile devices. The updated Play Store will now adapt to automotive interfaces, extend into XR environments where users can browse apps in an immersive 3D space, and optimize for larger PC screens. This multiscreen strategy includes bringing popular PC titles like Dave the Diver and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun to Android mobile and PC with cloud save functionality, plus extending game trials to PC gaming. Additionally, the service introduced new social engagement features such as 48-hour sprints and community posts, while family safety improvements via Family Link allow parents to share age ranges directly with apps for more appropriate content filtering.

Then, Android users can build and run AI slopwares without any developer account, but they will soon no longer be allowed to install F-Droid apps ? Their security measures are strange 🤔

Google has more (financial) incentives to promote its own half-baked expensive tool than free third party ones (especially because Google has no control over them). You would be thinking alike if you would have invested $350B into AI like Google already did. So yes, Google is the new evil, and even Microsoft struggles to compete again it.
