Excellent developer community and community participation. The codebase originated with Organic Maps and Maps.me before that, and was forked because people didn’t like where those projects were going.

Free, open source, privacy-focused and ad-free alternative to Waze and Google Maps. I use it while driving my car, but also when I'm walking or biking, and it's really good. The app is lightweight, very easy to use, and the interface is nice.
