What is Odwrotna Mapa?

The Odwrotna Mapa is more than just a map with south at the top. It is a protest against conventional cartographic conventions and the limited interfaces of popular commercial maps.

Most people accept north at the top of the map as the default and the only correct orientation. The Reverse Map proves that spatial orientation is merely a matter of convention, and that a change in perspective can completely transform the way we perceive geography, distances, and the relationships between places.

The project evolved from a simple visual concept into a fully-fledged, advanced GIS and surveying-tourism tool, built on the basis of open data (OpenStreetMap) and a modern vector rendering engine (MapLibre GL).
