I can't tell you how nice it is to finally have an honest-to-goodness replacement for InDesign that runs on Linux. Anyone who has used InDesign before should be able to get up and running with Viva in no time at all.

Only VivaDesigner and InDesign are able to export to .IDML (Indesign Markup Language)

I use both VivaDesigner and Scribus professionally. I am opposed to any kind of subscription software. VivaDesigner is a very high-quality layout program, in some features, it is superior to Adobe Indesign. My clients often ask for an Indesign source file and VivaDesigner has the ability to export to .idml format which is editable in InDesign and in some other third-party softwares, like Affinity Designer. This makes it possible for me to provide to clients an editable Indesign file (.idml) without the need to subscribe to Indesign.

VivaDesigner works perfectly on Linux. They even provide an AppImage which can be used on different Linux distributions on the same computer.

I haven't tried their Windows or Mac version. They have free and demo editions to try.

I'd like to add that VivaDesigner is the the only InDesign Alternative that is able to import, edit AND EXPORT the .idml file. There are a quite few programs that can open an idml (or indd) file, but only Viva can also export it.

Seems to me like a good DTP software. But their website is quite slow, and the page on which the editions are compared does not load at all. The program start of the AppImage (for GNU/Linux) is terribly slow, also. But I will test the software thoroughly as soon as I find the time, because I am not really happy with Scribus (version 1.5.8), which I find not intuitive enough in parts.
