Later versions are bloated and come with ads. Version 2.2.1 is lightweight and has everything you need.
Also stick with Windows NT 4.0 and WinAmp 2.9. It's safer that way. I have not found any ads in the newer versions that cannot be disabled in the options, and sticking with old, networked software exposes you to patched security holes.

Yes, 2.2.1 is where I'm at as well. I'm not going to downgrade to any "newer and better" versions.

µTorrent 2.0.4 still works up to today and I consider it the most lightweight torrent client solutions, especially for people with older and weaker systems. Compared to PicoTorrent and qBittorrent it uses slightly less RAM, which honestly PicoTorrent uses as little as this, but the main thing, is that it uses less CPU. Torrent is something that usually runs in the background, while people game or do other things, so the less CPU it uses the better, especially if their CPU is not a strong one.
I am not giving it 5 stars, cause obviously it is outdated, lacking a lot of updates that someone might want.
Honestly even if PicoTorrent feels almost as lightweight as this, it feels too simple and the only comparable (when it comes to functionality and UI) to me, is the slightly more heavy qBittorrent.
While uTorrent is functionally sound software, it's full of ads and other annoyances. You're on AlternativeTo already. Use it! Pick one of the top open-source alternatives, they're all really great and have zero ads or paid upgrades.
An old proprietary piece of trash on your computer. It installs adware, promotes scam ads, spying you. I just don't get it, why people still using utorrent? Yes, someone talked about using an old version of the program - but this is a completely wrong and useless decision. You are risking your safety by downloading outdated programs. Just replace it with qbittorrent or any other open source alternative at last!
Don't use this garbage, use qBittorrent or any other FOSS alternative instead.
There is literally NO reason to use this garbage when things like qBittorrent exist. So, so, so many shady stuff in the past, I believe it also came with literal malware at one point.
Agreed! And there's also Transmission (which I use) if you prefer something really simple and minimalistic.

Yeah, I heard Transmission is great too!

BE AWARE that this garbage software runs a microsoftedgeupdater.exe process on your windows machine if you decide to use it, it's obviously a fake updater exe and not the real garbage microsoft edge, not trustworthy!
