I was looking for an SSH client. Simple and usefull for an simple user like me. Well putty maybe is good, but this app has ALL in ONE... ssh, ftp... Remembers login and pass - one click and i am connected to my server... Very nice app. Thank you alternative to for discovering this.
The default SSH terminal color settings render directory names as dark-blue on black, with bleed-through from the Windows CMD window background color on some lines, making the terminal really painful to use for a long period of time. So, don't bother with it if you plan to spend a lot of time in shell.
Also, the user interface is much more complex than it needs to be, and documentation is poor.
Updates are slow -- version 4.x was said to be 'at end of development cycle' c. 2010, and we're still on v. 4.x as I write this in 2014.
I like how easy it is to configure. It doesn't have the problems putty has with securing ssh private keys on windows.
Bitvise does not actually provide support.
If you call there is no answer, and there is no voice mail system.
If you leave a support request, they don’t answer unless they ‘feel like it’.
If thier instructions are not clear, they don’t like to clarify. They insult the requestor and tell them they are a bore to ask such a question.
While this software has an amazing feature list, the interface is painful at best. I prefer single window apps (MobaXterm does this well) and tabbed sessions for quick and easy switching/access and this software is clunky and rather painful to use.
Unlike Putty and its spin-offs, so far as I can tell the Bitvise SSH client does not support dynamic (drag and drop) re-sizing of the terminal windows. You have to open the terminal windows properties and manually enter in a fixed terminal size, just like the Windows command prompt.
That alone was a deal killer for me.
Was using Putty for a long time. Came across Bitvise SSH Client and was quite impressed on the functionality and features offered by it. Good job Alternativeto
