On Windows 10, at first glance it looked perfect however...
Although I liked the idea of making a list of things to delete and how the chart is colored by root folder this program is not practical to use compared to Filelight or WinDirStat or jDiskReport.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this. All three points are fair, and they were real problems in the old version.
I'm the developer, and I've since rewritten SquirrelDisk from scratch (version 2, native Rust instead of a web view). On Windows it now:
uses the standard Windows title bar, so minimise, maximise and close are all there; has back/forward buttons and a clickable path at the top, and Esc or clicking the centre of the chart takes you up a level; scans the drive once and keeps the results in memory, so moving between folders is instant. It only rescans when you press refresh, and the chart updates on its own when you delete files elsewhere.

Totally fair, I did leave it alone for quite a while, sorry about that! The good news is that it's back and much better now: I rewrote SquirrelDisk from scratch this year, and version 2 runs on Windows 10 and 11. It's faster and more stable, and a lot of old bugs are gone.

Great for a basic users quick inspection and cleanup, but isn't easy to drill down into the distribution of files, or any further metrics at all, really... The color allocation for the viz is buggy, as I consistently saw a single color for my entire directory tree.
Thanks for the honest feedback, that's really useful! You're right, the old version was quite basic, and the single-colour chart was a real bug.
SquirrelDisk has since been rewritten from scratch, and version 2 fixes that: each top-level folder gets its own colour, so you can tell at a glance where the space goes, and there are seven colour themes to choose from. Drilling down is easier too. Click any slice to zoom in, use the back/forward buttons or the clickable path at the top to move around, and hover a slice to see its contents in the side list, biggest first, with sizes and file counts. There's also a treemap view if you prefer boxes to rings.
It's still aimed at quick inspection and cleanup rather than detailed analytics, so I'd love to hear which metrics you'd find most useful (file types, ages, largest files…). Feel free to suggest them at https://github.com/adileo/squirreldisk/issues.

Looks very good; but unfortunately it looks as if the author hasn't developed it any further since spring 2023, possibly abandoning the project.
Thank you! You were right at the time: I did step away from it for a while after 2023. The good news is that SquirrelDisk is very much alive again. I rewrote it from scratch this year, and version 2 is faster, more stable and adds a treemap view, safer cleanup options, scanning of remote servers and cloud storage, and 25 languages.

Simple. Easy to understand and then take action. Helped me discard 140GB of crap that had been filling up my hard drive. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
