What is RenamerX?
RenamerX is a local-first AI file renamer and lightweight file organizer for macOS and Windows. It reads documents, images, and videos, extracts useful details such as titles, dates, clients, projects, and identifiers, and turns them into clear, searchable filenames that follow a reusable naming template.
With the included local AI, file understanding runs on the device and files are not uploaded to an external AI provider. RenamerX can also connect to Ollama, LM Studio, OpenAI, Google Gemini, or a custom OpenAI-compatible service; data handling then depends on the provider selected by the user.
RenamerX uses a review-first workflow. Each suggestion can be checked, edited, retried, ignored, or approved before changes are applied. Applied renames and moves can be undone. It also supports batch processing, controlled vocabularies, lightweight folder organization, and Watch Folders for recurring workflows. The Free plan includes 50 successfully processed files per local calendar month. A one-time Pro license adds unlimited RenamerX processing credits, Watch Folders, and Auto Apply.
