SDL is a library that provides access to the rendering, audio and input APIs. Redot is a fork of the Godot Engine with the same rendering, physics and audio server.
You can use SDL if you want to develop a tool, game or game engine from scratch.
However SDL is NOT an alternative to Redot. There is no "SDL editor" to quickly make games with it.
