Priama is a free desktop application for writing long-form fiction and
non-fiction. It keeps an entire book project — the manuscript, the research
behind it, and the files you send to a publisher — in a single folder on your
own machine.
The editor handles chapters and scenes with drag-and-drop reordering. Alongside
it sits a wiki for characters, locations and lore, and entries can be mentioned
directly in the prose, so your notes and your text stay connected instead of
drifting apart into separate apps.
Features:
• Manuscript organised into chapters and scenes
• World-building wiki for characters, locations and lore
• Entity mentions linking wiki entries into the text
• Export to DOCX, EPUB and PDF, and import from DOCX
• Offline spell check in English, Spanish and Russian
• Automatic zipped backups, restorable from inside the app
• Autosave and distraction-free writing
Priama works entirely offline. There is no account to create, no subscription,
no telemetry and no analytics. Projects are stored as plain JSON in an ordinary
folder, so they can be backed up, synced or opened by other tools — and they
stay readable even if you stop using the app.
It makes only two network requests, both optional and both under your control:
a check for new releases when you ask for one, and an online grammar service
that ships switched off.
Free and open source under the MIT licence, for macOS, Windows and Linux.
Currently in early development.
