What is Preceden?
Preceden is a timeline maker that helps you quickly create great looking timelines and project roadmaps. With its intuitive web-based interface, numerous export options, and more, you'll be able to build and share your timeline in no time at all.
A Simple, Easy-to-Use Interface
Most other timeline software tools leave you scratching your head wondering where to click next. With Preceden, we’ve spent countless hours designing and redesigning the interface to make it as simple as possible while still giving you all the features you need to create a timeline with ease. In a survey of over 1,000 Preceden users, the top two words they used to describe how they use Preceden were easy and timeline and after trying Preceden, we think you'll see why.
Layers to Organize Your Timeline
Layers allow you to keep your timeline organized by helping you group related events together. For example, in a project plan you might have one layer containing all events related to investor activity and another layer containing all events related to marketing and advertising. By grouping related events together in layers, your timeline will always remain clean and organized.
When you're ready to share your timeline, Preceden gives you a lot of options. You can...
• Download your timeline as a printable PDF or as an image • Share your timeline with others using its URL • Embed your timeline in other websites • Export your timeline as a comma-separated value (CSV) file
Preceden is a free online timeline maker – no download is required to use our software. Regardless of whether you need a timeline maker for Mac or PC, as long as you have a web browser you'll be able to use Preceden to create timelines.

I found this app in 2012 when it first came out and I used it to prepare my entire custody case in court. I tried all other available timeline apps and Preceden is by far the BEST to this day (2021). If you're a professional like a lawyer or a teacher, or anyone who needs to organize and present time related information in a clear, visual and flexible manner, the $99 annual fee is incredibly worth it. It's also very intuitive and easy to use, even by younger students.
I like Precenden because it solves our needs to have simple creation of roadmaps. We used to use gitKraken Timelines, but they discountinued the product, and we had to look for an alternative. After much struggle looking for something that covered our needs, we found Precenden. We are very happy. In many ways is superior to the solution we were using before. They need to improve yet a bit on the UI/UX, though.
I like Preceden because it helps me keep track of the events that happened in my novel. Super loved the bulk editor feature, helps me save a lot of time editing. I just hope that there's a feature that could merge two or more timelines into one, combine multiple same-day events into one entry, and a vertical timeline appearance.
Really complete app
Preceden has been the simplest high-quality timeline development software I've used. I tried a TON of options before settling on them, and they are clearly the best way to create a "standard" timeline or Gantt that is sufficient for most cases. It's not meant for project management, and doesn't produce the hyperdetailed timelines of something like Aeon, but it's not meant to - instead, it's a solution I can reliably turn to to produce a client-ready deliverable in about 20 minutes, start to finish. And they keep improving it. Highly recommended.
It is simple to create good looking timelines, to collaborate on them and to share them.
It's really simple and it was made by listening to users. It keeps getting better and better
