Postmate Client information
What is Postmate Client?
Postmate Client is a free API client that runs entirely inside VS Code — a privacy-first alternative to Postman and Thunder Client with no login, no cloud sync, and no telemetry. Every request, collection, environment, and token stays on your machine.
It supports REST, GraphQL (dedicated Query/Variables editor), and WebSocket testing (ws:// and wss:// with TEXT, JSON, XML, and HTML message modes) — all free, with no paid tier or feature paywalls.
Key features:
Postman-compatible scripting: pre/post-request scripts with pm.test, pm.expect (Chai), JSON Schema validation, and a one-click schema generator Response-aware IntelliSense: the script editor autocompletes field names from your last response — unique among API clients Data-driven testing: run requests against CSV data tables, with per-request row filtering via tags Collection runner and a free CLI for CI/CD pipelines with HTML/JSON reports Response comparison across environments, request chaining, environment variables, and secret variables One-click import of Postman v2.1 collections, OpenAPI/Swagger specs, and cURL commands Git-friendly: collections are stored as local files, so teams share and review them through their existing repo workflow
Works fully offline. Install from the VS Code Marketplace.
A few tips for the submission form: pick "Visual Studio Code" as the platform, tag it under API testing / developer tools, add Postman, Thunder Client, Bruno, and Insomnia as alternatives, and set the license to Free (proprietary) — since your docs say "Postmate Client Proprietary License," don't mark it open source.
