Comment summary: PhraseExpress is widely praised for its extensive features and usability as a text expander tool on Windows, especially favored in the medical sector for its efficiency. Positive feedback highlights its adaptability, easy customization, and the ability to integrate with cloud services like Dropbox. However, users report concerns about support responsiveness and license restrictions. Some experiences with bugs and high resource usage on macOS have been noted, and requests for a Linux version continue.

I have been using Phrase Express for 3 years now in my medical practice. Very efficient for prescriptions, instructions sheets, and many other computer tasks. USB version is very useful. The author is always improving it. The PRO version is a must.

Horrible - it didn't save my backups - and over hours inserted textphrases are gone! That is now the third time this happened - h.o.r.r.i.b.l.e!

BartelsMedia

Of course, PhraseExpress keeps backups. Please check https://www.phraseexpress.com/doc/phrase-files/backup/ or contact support at https://www.phraseexpress.com/support/

Don't contact support unless you want somebody to misread your emails and make stupid jokes

It saves backups under Roaming. Just rename the extension and import. It's easy, but this is still a glitch. The major updates seem to import things fine, but the minor updates seem to miss at times.

I have to say that the "support" from this company is abysmal. They are rude, and basically refuse to help. There are NO options for support other than their unhelpful agents unless you want to pay more, and I was told that a software issue I was experiencing was because I needed to upgrade to a more expensive license, they never once actually tried to troubleshoot, not a single question about my setup, recent changes, nothing! I have been in software support for almost 10 years, and if any of our agents treated a client the way they treated me, they would not last long at our company. I will never use them again and advise anyone to STEER CLEAR of them.

Very powerful. Has the features I need. Support was also quick. Would like to see a Linux version.

The tool is good in theory, but it is buggy and support is no help to say the least.

I contacted them for an issue with images not pasting correctly and asking them some sales related questions. I was asked some more details and then two days passed without any info. When I followed up asking if anything was known about the issue and if they could get back to me regarding the sales questions, they again did not answer any of the questions, just: “Please make your purchase decision on what you find and not what you expect, please.”

Saying I was a bit shocked that they refused to answer even the sales questions I got a mocking 730-word essay on why relaxing is important. All they did was ridicule my questions while I thought there was nothing weird about asking whether it is possible to upgrade once a license is purchased. It turns out the team at Phraseexpress does find that weird enough to ridicule you.

It’s a shame because it has the functionality I need.

We are sorry to learn that you are unhappy with our support efforts. As we explained to you by email, we have opened a ticket to investigate the reported issue. Our reply “Please make your purchase decision on what you find and not what you expect.” refers to your question "should I wait with ordering?" as we cannot make a promise if a specific issue can be fixed. Please do not take the communication personal. We have no intention to "ridicule" users. We are technical support and have no interest in you as a person.

I am surprised and cannot confirm this experience. Support was kind and even created a custom video tutorial for me. Couldnt ask for more.

For me the functions of free version are enough.

This is amazing software. As time goes on, I just keep thinking of more and more ways to use it. It's so much more than a simple text expander. The preset Macros can do many things, and you can also make your own macros. There is one glitch that I tend to notice though. The major updates seem to import your phrases fine, but sometimes the minor updates don't. Backups are kept in the Users App Data Roaming folder.. At least for the installed version. Rename the extension removing the .bkp part, and it is easily imported. It's probably good to save a backup file elsewhere too. Thank you Bartles, for the answer to my previous issue. Another thing to note.. The Macro-Recorder option isn't free. Mouse clicking is a part of that. You can run other program's macros, and I plan to run an outside mouse clicker to compensate in some cases.

You can disable paid features under "Settings » Features". Then you won't get any license notification. Of course, you can also consider to support our work that you like. :-)

What is PhraseExpress?

The autotext and text expander software "PhraseExpress" manages frequently used phrases for quick insertion into any application.

Text snippets and canned responses are organized in a customizable folder structure and can be triggered by hotkeys or by entering text abbreviations.

Phrase menus can be pinned onto the desktop and save users from memorizing autotext shortcuts. After entering a few letters of the desired phrase, the popup menu narrows down the phrase list to the desired snippet.

Support for Firebird or Microsoft SQL servers including Citrix/TerminalServer allows users to share phrase libraries in a company network.

Phrases can also be shared in the cloud to allow synchronization with other PhraseExpress installations over the internet or PhraseExpress versions for Apple Mac and iPhone/iPad .

The built-in Clipboard Manager provides quick access to earlier clipboard contents.

A Document Generator allows users to create entire documents based on a list of boilerplate templates, that can be arranged with a few mouse clicks.

The Microsoft Outlook Add-In speeds up replying to emails and can fill-in the salutation including the recipient's name automatically. Suitable answering templates can be suggested based on the email topic.

Powerful macro functions can add dynamic contents to static phrases such as date & time stamps or placeholders for manual input. Phrases can be linked or nested. Macros can also launch programs or open documents triggered by shortcuts. Entering 'calc' may open the Windows calculator program or striking the hotkey CTRL-F8 may offer a Google search query of a highlighted text on-the-fly.

A portable edition runs from a USB thumb drive without installation. Sensitive data can be password protected with AES encryption.
