What is Opera?
Opera is a web browser that integrates new technologies and prioritizes simplicity, speed, and security. It contributes to open web standards and offers a customizable start page, Speed Dial, and a sidebar for quick tab switching and access to services like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Telegram.
Opera has built-in features including an ad-blocker, sync, unit converter, battery saver, and VPN. It supports extensions from its own store
Opera Add-ons and the Chrome Web Store . It emphasizes mobile internet security with a free VPN, ad blocker, and integrated AI, and data-saving compression technology.
Opera uses AI technology for features like smart browser AI, webpage summaries, text and image generation. The AI can be used for chat and content creation, answering questions, generating images and content, and boosting productivity. The Ad Blocker ensures a smooth, ad-free experience, and the Free VPN encrypts browser traffic for secure public Wi-Fi use.
Opera has specific versions for different devices and uses. The Android version includes a data saver, download manager, text adjustments, night mode, and a Crypto Wallet. There's also a gaming version, Opera GX , a slimmed-down version,
Opera Mini , which compresses web pages for faster loading and data saving on mobile devices, and
Opera Touch which focuses on faster web search.

Comments and Reviews
Its an okay browser, used to be quite a lot better but I feel like its going the way of Firefox where they don't seem to be focusing on privacy that much any more
opera was sold to Chinese few years ago. Don't put sensitive data to this browser. They paid 600 million so they want profit... Just think
Can you clarify that with a link or public statement of the company itself? A pure statement doesn't say anything :\ - still though it's helpful. It's (sadly) not the first time I heard of this…

I miss what Opera used to be, back when it was the scrappy underdog of the browser wars. These days it's just another Chromium clone, with a bunch of spinoffs that might make sense to investors and a bunch of extra features I don't need.
Its spiritual successor
Vivaldi is also built on Chromium, but their focus still seems to be on making a good browser that works for the person using it instead of working to squeeze out more profit for the conglomerate.
Back in the day, Opera was a 10/10 browser.
Now it is just another Chromium clone, but with possible security flaws and known connections to third parties. It is a meme-browser trying to cash-in on trends.
Functionality works like it should; in fact, it's even better than Google Chrome. The real problem is (and it's the same complaint that everyone else is pointing out) that Opera was acquired by a Chinese firm, thus now being majorly privacy-invasive. And (this is my opinion) for whatever reason, it's now milking its own brand of browsers; Mini, Neon, One, GX, and now Air. A favorable successor there would be Vivaldi for those interested.
I was originally gonna rate this two stars because Opera at least works better than Chrome (I tried Opera for almost a year). However, annoyingly, since Opera really wants to push its browser spinoffs out there in hopes of people switching from Chrome (and that's probably gonna be the case too, I think), I changed my mind about it.
Nobody should recommend this shady badware in 2024, Opera used to be an inovative web browser but it's now a fraud making chinese acquiered bloated piece of deception.
It is a nice browser with a lovely User Interface. - Addressing the claims others have made: https://blogs.opera.com/security/2023/07/debunking-spyware-misinformation/
