The first 20 apps I install on a new Windows PC
Windows is bundled with scores of important and useful apps by default, much more than it had in its early days. There are still a lot of other apps I think are incredibly helpful or just really cool, while some third-party apps are essential for specific types of work. Here's a list of 20 of them I typically install before anything else on a new Windows PC.
Working in the creative industry but don't want to use Adobe products?
For quite a long time, I've been looking into entirely ditching Adobe Creative Cloud products because of the price (€60/month), the subscription model, the fact that you have to use their Creative Cloud in order to use their software and to sync anything, the way Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign are bloated, the fact that often you can't use the software if you don't have an Internet connection because Adobe must be able to check your license… and so on and so on.
For a long time, their software were amazing and above everything on the market, but now, Adobe software feel like old complicated bloated tools to me. And, so I took my courage with both hands, uninstalled all Adobe products on my computer, canceled my subscription and deleted my Behance and Adobe accounts.
I've since then replaced all Adobe software with the following ones:

This is one of the best audio-editing apps I've tried in 10+ years. I've been a sound designer, composer and a voice talent for over a decade now, and I deal with audio apps every day. This one is great - the design and the workflow in single-track audio editing is superb. Especially I like the customizable hotkeys. I highly recommend this software to anybody who does audio editing.
As of 3.7.7, Audacity crashes too easily to continue using it. For god's sake, MUSE, if you're going to work on an open source project you took, focus on keeping it crash-free BEFORE you do a total revamp of the GUI!
An easy, simple, practical editor that is more user-friendly and intuitive than its competitor "Audacity".
This program is genius in being so simple, I have so much fun just quickly recording and editing in it. It works perfectly well both on Windows and on Linux, which is a rare find! It even supports VST (although only version 2) -- it adds to fun immensely. Strongly encourage to use this and support the devs!
Better than Audacity
Wanted a good alternative to the now-spyware Audacity... and I found it!! i couldn't find much about the developers of this application, but it appears to have been created by a university in Brazil.
It's very intuitive to use, at least for me, coming from Audacity, and long ago, from CoolEdit. Only little drawback is, that the dynamics processor does not have a live (optical) display of the compressed audio or at least the compressed level.
