What is Nextcloud Calendar?
The Calendar app is a user interface for Nextcloud's CalDAV server. Easily sync events from various devices with your Nextcloud and edit them online.

This has completely replaced
Google Calendar for me. It's private, since I can run it on my own server, so I'm in control of my data. It supports everything I need it to do. And it syncs easily (using CalDAV) in both directions with just about everything I want to use it with: 
Thunderbird, 
Vivaldi, 
GNOME, 
macOS and Android (using 
DAVx5). On Android I currently use 
Simple Calendar.
The only platform I've had trouble syncing calendars with was
Microsoft Mail and Calendar, which has been discontinued anyway.
Nextcloud Calendar is "[a] calendar app for Nextcloud," [0]. But I don't use Nextcloud. I'm just looking for a standalone calendar.

Some mobile apps are listed as alternatives here. Nextcloud is a web app, and I was actually looking for a calendar server, not client app. There is no Nextcloud client app other than the one that comes with the web interface.
