What is MumoStream?

MumoStream is a self-hosted media server that streams the video and music stored on your own server straight to your iPhone and iPad. iOS-compatible MP4 files play as-is, while MKV, HEVC and VP9 are converted on the fly to HLS, so anything in your library just plays.

The server is a single Go executable — no runtime, Docker or database to install. FFmpeg, SQLite and a web admin panel are all built in, and it runs on everything from a home PC to a Raspberry Pi. Hardware transcoding is supported via NVIDIA NVENC, Intel Quick Sync and AMD VAAPI, and HTTPS (Let's Encrypt) and UPnP port forwarding are set up automatically.

Your files are shown exactly as they are organized on disk, with no metadata scraping required. The iOS app adds offline downloads with selectable quality, Picture in Picture, background playback, subtitles and multiple audio tracks, seek preview, and customizable gesture controls. Favorites and playback history sync through the server, and multi-user access is managed with users, groups and ACLs.

A built-in Kids Mode turns the app into a safe player for children, with daily watch-time limits, a parental PIN and a simplified large-button interface.

The app is a free download. MumoStream Pro (monthly, yearly or a one-time purchase) unlocks unlimited playback time, offline downloads, and casting to Chromecast and AirPlay. The server itself is completely free with no feature limits. No ads.
