What is Meringo?

Meringo is an Android music player for local FLAC and ALAC files, and libraries on Jellyfin or Subsonic-compatible servers. It allows direct playback from servers and includes audio diagnostics for comparing with a re-decoded source. The app features a 10-band parametric equalizer, Android Auto compatibility, and M3U playlist importation. It bypasses Android's standard music resampling to 48 kHz by driving a USB DAC directly and hashing the transmitted data for user verification. Meringo can play local files and stream from Jellyfin and Subsonic-family servers without transcoding. It also has a 64-bit 10-band parametric EQ, AutoEQ imports, and a blind ABX duel. The app is designed with a local-first approach, keeping library, credentials, and analysis on-device, but does not support commercial streaming integration like Spotify, Tidal or Qobuz.
