What is Mindful Guard?
Mindful Guard is a free, Android-first app blocker built for people who actually struggle to stop opening distracting apps — not just track how much they use them.
Most app blockers on Android rely on a local VPN to filter traffic, but Android's Doze Mode regularly kills background VPN services on Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus devices to save battery — so the block silently stops working. Mindful Guard avoids this entirely by using Android's native UsageStats API to detect when a blocked app reaches the foreground and redirect it in under 200ms. No network hop, no VPN, no battery drain from an idle connection, and it works completely offline.
Key features:
- Block individual apps (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, X/Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook) or entire categories at once
- Strict Mode: once enabled, the block cannot be disabled or the app uninstalled without completing a time-locked cooldown
- Scheduled blocks (e.g., blocked 9am–6pm on weekdays)
- Custom focus sessions with a timer
- Zero telemetry — runs 100% offline, no account required, no analytics, no ads, no server to send data to
Mindful Guard is free with no subscription, and setup takes under two minutes: install, grant Usage Access permission, add your first block, and enable Strict Mode.
