What is Micromegas?

Micromegas is an open-source (Apache-2.0) observability stack that covers the whole path from instrumentation to dashboards.

  • Instrumentation: low-overhead libraries for Rust and an Unreal Engine 5 plugin; any OpenTelemetry SDK can also send data over OTLP.
  • Ingestion: telemetry lands in object storage, with metadata in PostgreSQL, which keeps retention cheap at high volume.
  • Analytics: SQL queries on Apache DataFusion, available over FlightSQL.
  • Presentation: an analytics web app with interactive notebooks and rich charts, and an embedded WebAssembly query engine that keeps exploration fast in the browser; plus a Grafana plugin and a Python client.

It's self-hosted and designed for workloads that are too expensive to send to commercial SaaS, such as game clients and servers at scale.
