vincent-peugnet liked MediaInfo
- 3rd added Multi Platform as a feature to MediaInfo3r
3rd added MediaInfo as alternative(s) to PlotBitrate
Nice, simple program used to view detailed codec, bitrate, and other useful information about audio and video files. The Linux version works great in Mint and Lubuntu.
It is clean and works fine.
The "gold standard" for checking media like bitrate and codecs.
Alas, the real issue is that there are no real competitors in linux land :(
It works but it lacks in sooo many things:
First of all it only show vague values length, hours and minutes or, if shorter, minutes and seconds. Now tell me, how to compare similar rips? Kaboing!
Second, the interface is a bit messy and tells only half the truth of subtitles. Do not expect proper short description of the streams here (ironically this view is called easy).
Third, you probably have seen hundreds of MediaInfos (together with NFOs) and grew accustomed to that. Can you set this text view as standard to open up? Nope, of course not.
End of day, I still like it... but it's serious time for a complete revamp or better competitor.
PS: Depending on the job, sometimes it's actually easier/better to use MKVToolNix to get the desired info.
Virustotal doesn't show any suspicion anymore with the current installer (MediaInfo_GUI_22.09_Windows.exe). Also, I didn't see any installation of additional software (checkbox etc.).
MediaInfo_GUI_0.7.72_Windows.exe
OpenCandy Artemis Suspicious_GEN.F47V0107
Same here. detected malware by AVG.

:-( "MediaInfo" app has adWare in the installer ! (v0.7.76) It installed “Active Discount” and the ridiculous sounding "open Photoshop" in the Add/Remove programs and Chrome extensions
IF you install the software from the developers homepage.
use this site instead and download the portableApp version http://www.videohelp.com/software/MediaInfo
I cleaned my system with AdwCleaner and herdprotect

Years have passed, and the windows variant are still communicating with malicious entities. which is unfortunate :(

Which is recognized to be OpenCandy. thus making you a definite target for ads. And potentially more dangerous types of malware.

I use Media Info constantly when I'm working with video. The information it provides is especially helpful when you want to convert to a different format and want to keep the same quality.
