What is Marginalia Search?
Marginalia Search is a project aimed at creating new ways to explore the Internet, focusing on personal, non-commercial aspects. It operates on cost-effective hardware without the need for datacenters, reducing operational costs. The project aims to enhance its search engine to offer public value and facilitate funding through grants, donations, and commercial API licenses. Non-commercial usage will always be free. The system can be used as a replica of Marginalia Search or as a white-label search engine for individual data, whether crawled or side-loaded. Improvements are being made to increase configurability.

Comments and Reviews
A very fun (and now open source) small web search engine. Marginalia uses its own crawler to find interesting websites, with an emphasis on older content and independent blogs. It is a great way to find websites and posts that do not readily turn up on general-use search engines.
It's a cozyweb search engine. Like a parallel universe where webrings and obscure gems of the web can still be discovered through magic incantations of words in a search bar
Useful for finding indie sites and sites that don't rely on heavy resources. Down side is it lacks contextualized searching ability so you have to use more key word based searching methods. One of my favorite features is "explore" which gives you preview images of random sites from their index.
Quirky retro alternative
Its fun and you find weird and interesting things. Also a cool tool for researching a topic.
