What is SearXNG?
SearXNG is an open-source internet metasearch engine that amalgamates results from a maximum of 251 search services. It prioritizes user privacy by ensuring no tracking or profiling of user activity. For added privacy, SearXNG can be utilized via Tor for online anonymity. It offers a variety of features including the option for self-hosting, optional use of scripts and cookies, secure, encrypted connections, and the ability to handle 58 translations. It currently supports approximately 70 well-maintained instances on searx.space. The integration of search engines is simplified, and the software development process is professional, with continuous integration, quality assurance, and automated user interface testing.
SearXNG is a derivative of the original
Searx , with several modifications aimed at enhancing user experience. One of the major updates is the revamp of the simple theme, which is now compatible with desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. It provides light and dark versions, supports right-to-left languages, and the screenshots are available for review. The translations are kept updated and users have the opportunity to contribute via Weblate. The preferences page has been refreshed, providing information on the reliability of engines, grouping engines within each tab, and providing a description for each engine. Anonymous metrics are used to ease the bug reporting process and ensure quicker fixes. If users prefer, they can disable the recording of metrics on the server. Administrators have the capability to block and/or replace URLs in the search results.

!bangs + privacy + proxy
Even calling it a "metasearch engine" is a bit misleading, since Searx/SearxNG is just a wrapper/aggregator that calls other 'real' search engines, so it's not an engine itself, not in the same sense of the word. And those other engines of course will not be too happy about having their resources used while all their ads get hidden in this way, so they will try to detect if you're doing this and block you, after which your Searx/SearxNG will stop working, or end up returning way fewer results until it becomes useless.
Couldn't use? S#cks as far as I can tell?

Runs smooth on my selfhosted server. Has many features.
So basically, I see a bunch of "instances" which are like a bunch of search engines, and apparently you can make your own. I compared 2 instances and they seemed the same except one displayed icons and the other didn't. There are CSS differences. As with anything I've found other than Google, there won't be up-to-the-minute news.
A fork of a great search engine
