What is Mac Classic Player?
Mac Classic Player is a media player for macOS built for people who miss the directness of Media Player Classic on Windows. You open a file and it plays, with keyboard shortcuts doing the work instead of menus.
Large files are streamed through a local server with range request support, so a multi-gigabyte video starts playing immediately rather than loading into memory first. The player keeps a list of recently opened files, accepts drag and drop, shows a track info overlay for audio metadata, and updates itself from GitHub Releases.
It is free and open source under the MIT license, built with Tauri, and distributed as a signed disk image for Apple Silicon Macs.
