What is Locate32?
Locate32 is software which can be used to find files from your harddrives and other locations. It works like updatedb and locate commands in Unix based systems. In other words, it uses databases to store information about directory structures and uses these databases in searches. The use of these databases provides very fast searching speed. The software includes a dialog based application as well as console programs which can be used to both update and access databases.
Comments and Reviews
I remember it allowed to do quick image search, it was one of the few apps that allowed you to do it.
Today Everything can already do it, so it lost the purpose it had before.
This software save me alot of time everyday even if it has been years since its last version. It works well on windows 10 to index network shares and local drives.
Equal advantages as Locate32:
Discontinued in 2011, developer no longer supporting "Locate32". Program uses ancient Win-98 engineering by building its own data base.
Does not search contents .... seaches for file names ONLY.

I think this is an interesting indepth file searcher with many options for the technically inclined who might find some advantage that the average person doesn't; Locate32 takes a learning curve and you can't just hit the ground running. You have to create a database first, but it doesn't quite invite you or ask you where. When you find the button it immediately goes to default C:, doesn't offer to refine the choice, and doesn't stop when you tell it (unless you use task manager) ..a more detailed option can refine that. The Database deal and its updating is too much of a turnoff to make me want to spend more time with this.
This one just works, and that is all there is to it. There's a bit of troubles to include/exclude external drives, but otherwise this application rocks.
This is one of the best file searching tools I've used. Other tools don't do indexing or make it difficult to search specific file types or don't let you search the file contents. This does all of those things very well.
My one complaint, which is true of almost all file searching software I've tried, is that it poorly handles UNC paths (i.e. network shares). Some of the shares I need to search don't appear in "My Network" so it's a hassle to map drives or create junction points just to get it working.
