What is Liftoff by firstfu?

Liftoff is a free, open-source (GPLv3) Launchpad replacement for macOS 26 and later, which replaced the classic Launchpad grid with an "Apps" list.

It brings back the full-screen grid with pages, folders, drag-to-rearrange and type-to-search, and adds a few things the original never had:

  • Live window previews: hover a running app to see thumbnails of all its windows, including minimized ones and windows on other Spaces. Click one to jump straight to it.
  • Window search: typing in the search field matches app names and also open window titles.
  • Smart Organize: sorts your whole app collection into folders in one click, using a built-in table of 1,000+ apps (no AI, no network). You see a preview first and nothing changes until you apply it; your previous layout is backed up.
  • Drag apps from the grid straight into the Dock, and import your old Launchpad layout.
  • Fast and light: opens in under 3 ms, no dropped frames while paging, 0% CPU when idle.
  • 13 languages.

Liftoff makes no network connections unless you ask it to check for updates. It can be installed with Homebrew or downloaded from GitHub Releases.
