What is Leynir Notes?

Leynir Notes is a privacy-focused note-taking app for Windows that stores everything in an encrypted vault on your own machine. There is no cloud, no account, no sync, and no subscription - your notes never leave your device. Encryption & Security All notes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they touch disk. The encryption key is derived from your master password using a key derivation function - meaning even if someone gets hold of your vault file, the contents are unreadable without the password. Windows Hello (fingerprint, PIN, or face recognition) provides a convenient second unlock layer without weakening the underlying encryption. Biometric data never leaves your device. Your file, your rules Everything is stored in a single portable vault file on your filesystem. Back it up to an external drive, an encrypted USB, or keep it local — the choice is yours. No proprietary sync service, no vendor lock-in.

Features

AES-256-GCM encryption at rest Windows Hello biometric unlock Offline-only, zero network connections Eisenhower Matrix for task prioritisation Focus Mode to minimise distractions Version history to restore previous note states Find & Replace across notes Pinned notes, multi-select, trash & restore Custom snippets and keyboard navigation Reading time estimates Multiple themes

Pricing $7.99, once. No free tier with artificial limits, no pro plan, no recurring fee. Who it's for Leynir Notes is built for people who want a simple, fast note-taking tool and are not willing to hand their data to a cloud service to get it. If you have ever felt uneasy about Notion storing your notes on their servers, frustrated by Standard Notes pushing a subscription for basic encryption, or wished Obsidian offered encryption at rest - Leynir Notes was built for that gap.
