    HyperTerminal is described as 'terminal emulator capable of connecting to systems through TCP/IP Networks, Dial-Up Modems, and COM ports. Until Windows XP, it is included with the operating system, but, starting from Windows Vista, it has to be bought separately' and is a Terminal Emulator in the OS & Utilities category. There are more than 10 alternatives to HyperTerminal for a variety of platforms, including Windows, Linux, Mac, Android and Android Tablet. The best alternative is PuTTY, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like HyperTerminal are Royal TSX (Freemium), JuiceSSH (Free), YAT - Yet Another Terminal (Free, Open Source) and RXVT (Free, Open Source).
