Comments about OpenStreetMap as an Alternative to Google Maps
Comment summary: OpenStreetMap (OSM) is praised for its open-source nature, community-driven data, and accuracy in remote areas, often outperforming Google Maps. Users value the ability to contribute to map improvements. However, criticisms include a lack of features such as navigation, direct public transit directions, satellite imagery, and street view. While OSM is seen as more privacy-conscious, Google Maps is noted for its comprehensive feature set.

OpenStreetMap is definitely a better alternative than Google Maps. OSM doesn't track you or appropriate your data, it's community-built and open source. I use OSM every day to get where I need to go, and if there's a problem with the map, I can fix it myself!

Open data, can be easily fixed and enhanced by myself or others, great detail (not car-only stuff like in GoogleMaps) , no commercial spam / privacy-rejecting tracking, much more up to date in many places...

Comments about OsmAnd as an Alternative to Google Maps
Comment summary: OsmAnd is praised for being feature-rich and privacy-focused compared to Google Maps. It offers offline navigation, open-source availability, and supports various activities like biking and skiing. Additionally, it has a strong focus on privacy, with a better policy than Google Maps, and no data required for navigation. However, some users find its interface disorienting and its learning curve steep due to the vast array of features.

OsmAnd is like a Swiss army knife of navigation apps. It is amazing not only for driving, but hiking, cycling, horseback riding, boating... you name it! It is more difficult to set up than most other apps, but its versatility is incredible. It can connect to the car through ODB, show weather overlays, and many many things one doesn't even associate with a navigation app.

Fully FOSS (free/open source software), Privacy focused, works offline (i.e. everywhere and low battery usage), smooth navigation, extremely easy to use, can even edit/add POIs to the map, directed by community and not corporate interests/profits. And OpenStreetMap data it uses is open and anyone can contribute.

I'm searching for a replacement to Google Maps. I mostly use it for live-time public transportation routes and schedules. Unfortunately, HERE WeGo couldn't even get close to a reliably accurate account of the regular schedules in the Canadian city I live, let alone in live-time.
