What is Goodfellow?

Goodfellow is a free, open-source website builder for people who have never used git. Site owners edit pages with a drag-and-drop editor, built on the Puck visual editor, at their site's /admin address. There is no server, database or monthly hosting bill.

Every page is stored as a file in the site's own GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket repository, and every save becomes a commit. A free static host (GitHub Pages, GitLab Pages, Cloudflare Pages or Vercel) then rebuilds the site. The admin panel is part of the static site and talks to the git host directly from the browser, so the content always stays in files the owner keeps.

Features include:

  • Editing pages, the header and the footer visually, with a preview before publishing
  • Collections such as news, events and videos, with shared templates and Markdown items
  • Menus, forms, calendars, site search, feeds and redirects
  • Sites in several languages, with translations of pages and items
  • Scheduled publishing, drafts, review by an owner and version history
  • Checks for broken links and accessibility problems before publishing
  • Importing a WordPress site, and exporting back to WordPress
  • An optional AI assistant that uses each editor's own key
  • Blocks developers write in React and Tailwind, or add from a library built with shadcn/ui
  • Sites built with Goodfellow's own builder or as a Next.js app
