What is Focalboard?
Focalboard is an open source, self-hosted alternative to 
Trello, 
Notion, and 
Asana.
It helps define, organize, track and manage work across individuals and teams. Focalboard comes in three editions:
- Focalboard plugin: The Focalboard plugin integrates into an exsting Mattermost instance to combine project management tools with messaging and collaboration for teams of all sizes.
- Personal Desktop: A standalone, single-user macOS, Windows, or Linux desktop app for your own todos and personal projects.
- Personal Server: A standalone, multi-user server for development and personal use.

Works for single users as a "normal install" (no selft hostion or forced online), true open source (no freemium) and super clean UI.
I was using the Windows desktop download. It was great when it worked, but one of their updates introduced some changes to the way the database file works, which weren't reflected in my project's file. I am still unable to access my boards til this day. All of my tasks are gone, and there's no solution from the devs! I went back to using Notion, Airtable, and Logseq. Would not recommend using this app to track important tasks.
Raw product. It works very slowly. It freezes and regularly produces errors. Single-user mode. Not suitable for work due to its unreliability and the presence of many bugs
Self-hosted and open source Notion. Awesome!
Simple, intuitive layout and easy to install on a Debian lxc. Just what I was looking for!
