Similar to Anytxt and AgentRansack. Good for wildcard File Category searches. Will not allow rename files from context menu, or allow search files by date created vs date modified, but AgentRansack does. For less detailed searches, you might like Everything Searcher. . FileSearchy does index, so it can take a while to startup initially, but it can be quite fast otherwise.

Huge GUI ... a space hog on laptop screens.

Returns location of every piece of text as a separate line on the final report
eg: 25 finds in a document creates 25 line items on the final report . . . . drowning in information

  • maybe for developers looking for the location of a specific line of text in a document

FileSearchy is very slow.

It has some good features such as being able to set your own file types and its very quick to find all files as people say, however anything else is very slow. It also doesn't seem to be creating my contents index.

  • If you only want to find today's file, although that is in the NTFS directory, it is extremely slow.
  • If you try to sort by date/time it asks if you want to do so (good), takes ages but probably worth it right? If you click it again it wants to resort the already sorted data! It doesn't cache anything.
  • It's currently locked up and not responding.
  • It only uses a single CPU on my 24 CPU computer.
