      JohnFastman OpenSuse is probably the closest alternative to Fedora (other than the commercial RedHat). Both OpenSuse and Fedora the .rpm packages. They come with different desktop environments by default, but you can install whatever you like once you have it up and running.

      Opensuse is the only distro that doesn't focus on GNOME as the main desktop, instead allowing users to select one of many desktop environments during the installation, eliminating the need to find different "editions," that you see in other distros. Also, their theming is GORGEOUS, especially with KDE.
