There's no real alternative to Expresii for a few things: 1. 3d brush that allows rhythm sketching - you never get the same stroke twice. 2. Natural water-based paint flow. 3. ability to export to huge images.
Don't be fooled by the oriental aspect of it. The watercolor engine is so organic and fast (using GPU). It's second-to-none. The virtual brush allows various marks to be made as if using a real one.
