I use this because of its promises but, it is hosted by Amazonaws that has servers in the USA, that probably have to record your IP due to legislation. Either way its better than going to google if you want privacy.

I got hooked on DDG a few weeks ago because I LOVE the !bang feature, and the more I read about this company and its founder the more I like it.

Private searches are the next logical step for the web. I am grateful to Google for its contributions to the web early on with relevant search results and many useful services, but it is time to move forward to the next logical step: relevant AND private search results. I believe we can have both. Duckduckgo and Startpage show that it is possible.

DDG licence?

I don't think that DDG is entirely open-source, so changed its licence to 'free'. Even though DDG has an open mind towards releasing (some of) its products under an open source licence, I know for sure that its Android client is closed-source. Is the change OK?

reply

I think it's OK :)

As written on their Support Center,

DDG is mostly closed source. However, a rapidly growing portion is open source.

what's not to like about a duck? for reals though it doesn't track you and it doesn't pass along your inquiries to sites it refers you to. blah blah blah you should read their website. it's also just a seamless pleasant experience as a search engine. and they have bangs!
