What is defract?

defract is a macOS and Windows desktop app that turns Claude Code into a structured software development lifecycle. Instead of spawning more terminals, it carries one story from idea to shipped through a gated pipeline — story, design, architecture, implementation, review, release — with agents doing the work between the gates and you signing off on intent at each one.

Competitors run agents in parallel; defract runs the process around them. It pairs parallel agents with the structure most tools leave to you:

• Gated lifecycle: story ? design ? architecture ? implementation ? review ? release • A built-in visual design stage before any code is written — rare in this category • Parallel Claude Code agents, each isolated in its own git worktree • Agent-reviewed merges — agents reviewing agents before code lands • Persistent project memory that compounds across every build

defract is local-first: your code and terminal transcripts never leave your machine. It runs on the Claude Code subscription you already pay for, with no separate model markup.
