Veracrypt is a program for creating an encrypted container in which you can hide files protected by various encryption algorithms. It is excellent and extremely useful, but not for syncing files to the cloud because files you change inside the veracrypt container won't be seen to change by an external sync program. Veracrypt addresses a different need to Cryptomator.

Veracrypt encrypts whole drives and not single files, like Cryptomator. That makes syncing impossible, as the whole file would have be synced up and down after every small change.

I could not get the folder encryption to work right, and encrypted drives may cause problems and data loss. But it works awesome.

On Linux I prefer LUKS as its natively integrated into Ubuntu and other drives ask for the password automatically and the password manager can store it and fill automatically.

Cryptomator encrypts single files and is a good choice for Cloud Sync.

Veracrypt creates virtual encrypted drives that are not a good choice for Cloud Sync.

VeraCrypt is not about encrypting data on the cloud. It is more about local encryption.

The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014 after Microsoft terminated support of Windows XP. Windows 8/7/Vista and later offer integrated support for encrypted disks and virtual disk images. Such integrated support is also available on other platforms. You should migrate any data encrypted by TrueCrypt to encrypted disks or virtual disk images supported on your platform.

    TrueCrypt vs Cryptomator opinions
This alternative is disputed. TrueCrypt is still a legitimate alternative to Cryptomator, but it might have issues that some users think are important.

If you are on Windows, use Veracrypt. But also, change to Linux if you can.

Now that you are on Linux, natively encrypt your whole file system with LUKS and be happy, never worry about it again. Use Luks for other drives too.

Pretty good user experience, but still, Android is not a good platform to use encryption and mounted drives without screaming at least once.
