What is BibMe?

BibMe is a free automatic citation creator that supports MLA, APA, Chicago, and Turabian formatting. BibMe leverages external databases to quickly fill citation information for you. BibMe will then format the citation information and compile a bibliography according to the guidelines of the style manuals. If you prefer, you can enter your citation information manually. BibMe also features a citation guide that provides students with the style manuals' guidelines for citing references.

I am a longtime user of EasyBib. BibMe seemed like a great find since it is free. However there are some gotchas:

  1. APA is only the 5th edition as of 10/14/11, despite the 6th edition having been out since late 2009
  2. No copy and paste feature. You have to download an RTF file
  3. A BibMe credit message is appended to the end of the downloaded bibliographies
  4. Site does not display properly in IE9 with or without compatibility mode There may be more but I didn't spend any more time with it after running into these limitations. I'll be keeping my EasyBib subscription.
