Balane WindowNote information
What is Balane WindowNote?
Your context lives in the window. Your notes live somewhere else. WindowNote closes that gap: hit Ctrl-Option-Cmd-N over any window and a note sticks to it. "Migration running, don't close." "Waiting on numbers from Marc." "Feature done, tests missing."
The note follows the window as you move and resize it, hides when the window is covered, minimised, or on another desktop, and reappears with it. Editing happens right on the note — it's a non-activating panel, so the app underneath never loses focus.
After a restart the window IDs are gone, so WindowNote doesn't use them. Notes are anchored to a fingerprint of the app, the window title, and the document path, and matched back against whatever is open now. Every match shows how confident it is, and when in doubt it waits instead of guessing — a confidently wrong match is worse than an admitted one.
Per note you choose what it belongs to: this window, even as the title changes, or this content — that exact conversation, page, or file. Stack several notes on one window, drag them where they belong, or hang them off the window's edge where they cover nothing. Statuses and colours make a full screen readable at a glance.
Everything stays on your machine: a SQLite file in your user folder. No account, no sync, no cloud, no telemetry. Free for two windows with no time limit and no cap on notes; Pro lifts the window limit.
