Said about Adobe InDesign as an alternative
Not yet, I still need to use it first.
InDesign has tonnes of features to create beautiful looking flyers, resumes, menus, you name it. Kind of expensive though.
It's a lot to learn, but follow a youtube tutorial for the kind of thing you want to make, and you'll be using paragraph and character styles in no time.

manuel garcia Upvoted a comment on Scribus as an alternative to Adobe InDesign
I work with designers who send me PDFs as finished products. Sometimes I have to just make a small change here or there, and rather than going through a hassle of contracting someone for 10 minutes of work, I use Scribus to edit the files. I haven't used InDesign because it is too expensive and too much of a hassle to justify purchasing at work. Scribus can do the job that I need it to do. I have also used it to desing my CV and some other small projects, and I am very happy with it.

No similar at all to indesign
This is pretty much the application every big media agency uses for designing catalogs, newspapers, brochures, etc
There's really not a program that comes close to what Adobe Indesign can do
You can't compare this to microsoft publisher, any respectable designer will tell you otherwise
