What is AbelNotes?

AbelNotes is an open-source handwritten note-taking app built for technical work. It renders LaTeX math natively with searchable source, lets you import and annotate PDFs, and offers eight paper types including Cornell, isometric and music staff, with pressure-sensitive pens.

It is local-first and works offline with delta sync, and you decide where your data lives: your own WebDAV/Nextcloud server or your Google Drive. It can import from OneNote, Obsidian and Notion, share read-only public links as PDF snapshots, and resolves sync conflicts element by element with a 3-way merge.

Shape recognition automatically turns hand-drawn lines and geometric figures into clean shapes, and a personal library lets you save your own symbols and reuse them across notes.
