TIDAL drops direct-to-fan platform fees for U.S. artists, with more countries to follow
TIDAL has removed the platform fee from its direct-to-fan pricing model for artists in the United States. The service previously took a 10% cut from these music and merch sales, but under the new policy, Tidal says it will take 0% in platform fees.
With the platform charge removed, standard payment processing fees remain the transaction cost artists need to consider. Tidal says the change is intended to put more money from sales into artists’ pockets. Its announcement frames the move as a response to a music-sales economy where artists may not receive the same share as other participants.
For availability, the zero-fee model is live today for all US artists. Tidal is also working to bring its merchandise and music sales integration to more artists worldwide. The company did not provide a timeline for that broader rollout.
In its announcement, Tidal said it is determined to change the dynamic around who benefits from music sales. The policy applies to Tidal’s direct-to-fan model, while payment processing fees continue to apply.
