Qobuz now displays a tag alerting users when music has been identified as AI-generated

Qobuz, the independent French high-resolution streaming and download platform, has announced that it now displays a tag alerting users whenever music in its catalogue has been identified as AI-generated. The identification mechanism was designed and developed in-house and builds on the company's AI Charter, originally published in February 2026 and updated to reflect the new measure. “Today, the challenge is no longer just detecting AI-generated music but enabling listeners to identify it clearly”, said Georges Fornay, Deputy CEO of Qobuz, adding that “everyone should be able to know what they are listening to and make informed choices”.

The move comes as the wider industry grapples with a growing flood of machine-made tracks. Qobuz says 60% of streams from tracks identified as AI are currently classified as fraudulent by its anti-fraud systems and excluded from royalty payouts to rights-holders, while more than a third of albums flagged as AI-generated — with no listening activity, totalling some four million tracks — have already been removed from its search engine. Despite the proliferation of such content, AI-generated tracks account for only 0.38% of streams on the platform, a figure the company attributes to its editorially driven, human-curated approach to music discovery, and that also reflect numbers disclosed by Deezer earlier this year.

When fraudulent practices are detected, Qobuz says it applies strict measures: affected streams are excluded from reporting and royalty payments, and the associated content is removed from the catalogue entirely, part of what the company describes as a long-standing commitment to fair compensation for artists. The firm indicated that its AI Charter will continue to evolve in step with technological and regulatory developments across the music industry.
