Google rolls out its Pics AI image editor to AI Pro & Ultra subscribers; a new Canva rival

Google Pics, an image creation and editing tool from Google Workspace, is rolling out over the coming weeks to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and most Workspace business customers. It is built on Google's Nano Banana image generation and editing model and will be offered as a standalone product.

Alongside the standalone app, Pics is being integrated into Workspace applications. Docs and Slides integration starts today, while Drive integration is scheduled for the coming weeks.

Within the editor, users can isolate an object, add text comments to specific image areas, and make targeted changes without modifying the rest of an image. The tool can also execute multiple edits at once.

For text in images, Pics can modify or translate text in place while retaining the existing design and font. It also generates multiple options from one prompt for selection.

Finally, users can share creations with friends or teammates and collaborate on edits to the same image.
