/e/OS unveils version 4.3 built on LineageOS 23 with enhanced backup & restore features

The privacy-focused mobile operating system /e/OS has officially released version 4.3, marking a significant milestone as its first build based on LineageOS 23. The update is now available for all supported devices, encompassing both official and community builds, bringing users the latest security patches and bug fixes from the upstream LineageOS project. A headline highlight is that Fairphone 4 devices running /e/OS now operate on Android 16, representing a major upgrade for one of the platform's most popular hardware partners.

Beyond the foundational updates, the release introduces practical quality-of-life improvements centered around data management and device-specific enhancements. The backup & restore functionality now allows users to view their scheduled backup timing, includes wallpaper and weather widget settings in backups, and offers flexibility for existing Seedvault users who may prefer to continue with that system rather than migrating to /e/OS Backup. In addition, battery-related optimizations now intelligently pause and resume backup processes when power levels are low.

The Gigaset GS6 also receives targeted improvements, including better fingerprint detection reliability and an informational banner clarifying that the action button requires a long-press for its associated function to trigger. Firmware updates accompany the software rollout, with Fairphone 6 receiving FP6.QREL.16.100.0.20260727183253_WS1M (MR6) and Fairphone 4 updated to FP4.QREL.15.19.2.
