WhatsApp adds multiple passkeys per account and replaces two-step PINs with full passwords

WhatsApp has introduced several account security updates, including support for multiple passkeys on a single account, making it easier to use passkeys across both Android and iOS devices to verify identity with a fingerprint, Face ID, or device screen lock instead of traditional verification codes or PINs. The company also announced that more than 1 billion WhatsApp users have now set up a passkey.

WhatsApp is also strengthening two-step verification by replacing the previous six-digit PIN with a full password that can include letters, numbers, and special characters. The change is intended to make credentials harder to guess and provide stronger protection against account takeover attempts.

On Android, incoming calls from unknown numbers will now show additional context, including whether the caller is from another country and whether they share any WhatsApp groups with the user. The extra information is intended to help users assess unfamiliar or potentially suspicious calls before answering.
